Philip Harmon

Philip Harmon loved Beethoven
More than Strauss or Sosa,
And truth be told, his life was woven
Round the great composer.

Each symphony he rearranged,
Attempting to improve it,
His colleagues thought he was deranged,
And some essayed to prove it.

But Philip could not care at all,
And thought that it was tragic
That orchestras were far too small
To convey Ludwig’s magic.

And so the composition of
The orchestra was changed,
And also the position of
The sections rearranged.

Poor Philip Harmon soon was gone,
He died of something chronic,
But his orchestra still lingers on-
They called it Phil Harmonic.
